Perseus Galaxy Cluster (Abell 426)

- прим 190, > 500, тысячи галактик
- прим 240.05 (73.6 Mpc) - 250 млн св лет
- самая яркая NGC 1275 (Per A, 3C 84)

one of the most massive objects in the universe, containing thousands of galaxies immersed in a vast cloud of multimillion degree gas.

Abell 426 is the dominant member of the Perseus-Pisces supercluster. The super cluster extends to 300 million light-years and covers 40 degrees of the winter sky.

This image shows the Perseus Galaxy Cluster, also known as Abell 426. The cluster of galaxies contains over a thousand galaxies. While processing this image, I counted 103 objects which are clearly galaxies and saw almost as many small faint, fuzzy objects which appear to be galaxies as well. Given that an average galaxy contains between 100 billion and a trillion stars, this image probably displays in the ballpark of 100 trillion stars!

The brightest member in the cluster is NGC 1275 - a giant elliptical galaxy just left of center in this photo. NGC 1275 is one of the brightest X-Ray and Radio wave sources in the sky. To the right of NGC 1275 is another giant elliptical galaxy, NGC 1272. There are numerous other NGC galaxies in this image. Be sure to click on the photo to see the enlarged view, and see how many galaxies you can count!

In this image, North is Up. This image is cropped to 95% of the original full frame.

Abell 2151 Hercules Galaxy Cluster

- прим 200 - 300 галактик
- прим 470 - 509 (156 Mpc) млн св лет

The cluster is part of the larger Hercules Supercluster, which is itself part of the much larger Great Wall super-structure.

The area in Hercules bordering Serpens Caput has always interested me due the remoteness of many of the visible galaxies in that area, many of which are members of the Hercules Supercluster over 500 million light years away.а

A couple of months ago, I turned my main attention to the famous A2151 cluster to see how many galaxies were detectable within 1║ of the centre.а The cluster is easy to locate being just east of the bright star HD 144149. Go to the 5th mag star 5 Hercules and then drift about 30Т east to 7th magnitudeа HD 144149. A reasonable amount of magnification > 200x worked best for this cluster as all its members are very small mainly due to their remoteness.
